Work in Australia

There are different types of visa streams under which eligible workers can apply to remain in Australia for a temporary period. The type of visa granted depends upon the purported activity such as a working holiday, seasonal work, research activity, business engagements, exchange programs, specialised or skilled work etc.

The temporary short-term skill shortage visa (subclass 482) enables employers to address labour shortages by bringing in genuinely skilled workers where employers can't source an appropriately skilled Australian. It allows applicants to stay for up to 2 years or up to 4 if an International Trade Obligation (ITO) applies. The occupation must be on the short-term skilled occupations list.

TThis temporary medium-term skill shortage visa (subclass 482) lets skilled people with a relevant occupation work in Australia for an employer who can't find an Australian to do the work. This visa is for upto 4 years and your occupation must be on either the Medium and Long- term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) or the Regional Occupation List (ROL).

Australia also has several other work visa categories allowing applicants to travel to Australia for business and investment purposes. The Entrepreneur stream, Investor stream, the Significant Investor stream and the Premium Investor stream are some examples.

International students in Australia are also allowed to work in the country upon the successful completion of eligible programs and subject to graduating from approved education providers.
